"Moosehead's sponsorship reflects both the company's business and
community mandate," noted Len Edwards, executive director of the
Halifax Summit Office. "By becoming involved in the Halifax Summit,
Moosehead is promoting its growing business in four of the G-7
countries. At the same time, it is again demonstrating its commitment
to its home base in the Maritimes."
As part of their sponsorship arrangement, Moosehead will be the title
sponsor of a "Thank You" reception being planned for Summit volunteers
and staff. The reception is scheduled for Saturday, June 17th following
the delivery of the final Summit communiqué. This reception will be
hosted by the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, Prime Minister of
Canada,
and is being organized to recognize the contribution of the hundreds of
volunteers and staff working on the Summit.
In addition, they will provide barricades from their annual Grand Prix
motorsport race to the Halifax Summit Office for the official motorcade
route during the Summit.
Derek Oland, President & C.E.O. of Moosehead Breweries Limited
explains their rationale for sponsoring the Summit. "Our participation in
the Halifax Summit is essentially three-pronged. Not only do we want
to be associated with an event of this magnitude which is taking place
in our own backyard, but we also view this as a unique opportunity to
reinforce existing relationships in international markets where we do
business, as well as to potentially break ground in other new areas."
Moosehead Breweries Limited is Canada's oldest independent brewery,
the third largest in the country and the only major locally owned and
operated brewery in the Maritime Provinces. This family-owned business
generates more than $100 million through sales of its products
throughout Canada and on a worldwide basis including the United States,
Great Britain, Japan, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Sweden,
Norway, Finland, Hong Kong and Australia.
The Summit is a gathering of leaders from the seven largest industrialized
nations as well as representatives of the European Union and the Russian
Federation. The event will take place in Halifax from June 15-17, 1995.
